Igbinedion University, Okada being the first private university in Nigeria runs virtually all the Engineering Courses at it main campus on Mission Road, Okada, Benin City.
It should be stated here clearly, that at the time this post was put together, all the engineering programmes at Okada University were fully accredited by Council for Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN). This was according to a document obtained from COREN website.
Igbinedion University has seven colleges. College of Engineering is one of them and it comprises six departments which are:
Department of Chemical Engineering: offering BEng award in Chemical Engineering
Department of Civil Engineering: offering BEng degree certificate in Civil Engineering.
Department of Computer Engineering: offering BEng degree certificate in Computer Engineering.
Department of Electrical/Electronic Engineering: offering BEng degree certificate in Electrical/Electronic Engineering
Department of Mechanical Engineering: awarding BEng degree certificate in Mechanical Engineering and
Petroleum Engineering: awarding BEng degree certificate in Petroleum Engineering.
Just like any other universitites in Nigeria and abroad. All the above mentioned Engineering Courses are five years degree programmes (10 Semesters).
To qualify to be admitted to study any of these courses at IOU, a prospective student must have minimum of credit passes in 5 subjects (Mathematics, English Language, Physics, Chemistry and either Biology, Technical Drawing or Further Mathematics) in any O/L exams. He/she must also be successful in meeting the JAMB cut off mark and the school post UMTE cut off mark.
Igbinedion University pride itself as having the best training in Petroleum Engineering in Nigeria claiming that the students of the Department, on two occasions 2015 and 2016 has represented the country international Petro Bow Competition.
