Nigeria Has More International Students in United States of America Than Any Other Countries in Africa

Open Door 2019, a report jointly published by the Institute of International  Education (IIE) and the United States Department of States Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs has shown that Nigeria, the largest black nation in the world have more international students in the United States of America than any other countries in Africa.

Open Door a yearly publication  which focus on analyzing how competitive the US education sector is as a destination for international students and growing interest the US students is having in international educational exchange, shows that 2018/2019 academic year witness an increase in the number of international students in USA than any other years before.

The report which was published yesterday -22nd of November 2019- revealed that, during the 2018/2019 academic year, more than one million international students were schooling in the country. The figure which stood at 1,095,299 shows an increase of 0.5% over the previous year.

Further breakdown of the numbers revealed that Nigeria accounted for 13,424 of the international students during the academic year, a 5.8% increase over the previous year. The report says the number represent 33% of  international students from Africa, thereby making the country the largest sources of  students in Africa and the 11th largest in the world.

Open Door 2019 report revealed that students from Nigeria are enrolled in more than 1000 institution in fifty-one states and territories in the US. 18% of the figure are studying in Texas.
