University of Portharcourt IT Innovation and Incubation Park Building Officially Commissioned

The Honourable Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Isa Ali Pantami today 17th December 2019 officially commissioned University of Portharcourt IT Innovation and Incubation Park Building on behalf of Federal Government of Nigeria.

The project which was inaugurated some years back is funded by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) an organisation in Nigeria responsible for the development of information technology.

Speaking at the commissioning, the Honourable Minister said that  the University of Porthacourt IT Innovation and Incubation Park Building is one of the many of the projects which will be established across the country so that digital skills can be provided to the teeming Nigerian in order to enhance their disruptive ideas.

The Minister stated further that "our focus is to produce potential employers and not potential employees, this can be achieved through such intervention that will provide skills to Nigerian youths"

He said the potential of information technology cannot be underestimated when he cited an example of a young Nigeria Information and Technology iz-kid who was able to make billion of dollars from an application which he developed and sold to Apple Incorporation.

In his own address, the Director General of NITDA, Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi said that in our project Nigerian Data Protection  Regulations more than twenty-seven organisations has been registered and licensed and has provided jobs for more than six hundred people.

On arrival before the official commissioning of the IT Innovation and Incubation Park Building project the Honourable Minister and Director General of NITDA paid a courtesy visit to the Vice Chancellor of University of Porthacourt in his office.

The Vice Chancellor, Professor Ndowo Lale while commenting on the successful completion and commissioning of the project said, I can say that NITDA Nigeria innovation building happen like magic, something that has never been done  for the university in the last forty years we are thankful to NITDA and committed to long lasting relationship".

The Vice Chancellor latter conferred the NITDA Director General, Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi with a meritorious award.
