Honoris is a Pan African Education Group which owns and operates universities in Tunisia, Morocco, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Mauritius. It is control by a global investment firm know as Actis which own majority of the group equity.
Acquiring Nile University of Nigeria mark a big breakthroug for Honoris United Universities to gain entrance into Nigeria education sector and rest of West Africa
An elated CEO of the company, Luis Lopez, while speaking, told Reuters that the deal to acquire Nile University was closed in February before the outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic in Nigeria but however declined to disclose the amount of money involved in the deal.
Nile University of Nigeria was founded in 2009 and was sold some months after celebrated it's 10th years anniversary. The university was established in Abuja, Nigeria by Nigeria Tulip International College (NTIC) whose parent company is First Surat (Nigeria) Limited.
For the period of ten years the NTIC managed the university has grown tremendously, accounting for more than 3600 national and international students studying for 26 undergraduate programmes across 6 faculties and 36 postgraduate degree programmes across 5 faculties.
Mr. Lopez said, the new management of the institution hope to expand the university campus and grow the number of it students base to 10,000 within the next 6 years.
He said that Honoris is out and ready to satisfy the hunger of Nigerian for good and quality education, explaining that Nile University Distance learning programme and it capability will be expanded to target students in the South Western part of the country especially the city of Lagos and some other states in the North.
The management of the 3 years old Honoris sees the acquisition of Nile University of Nigeria as a great milestone in making the company big player in African's education sector saying that the students of the University will be expose to diverse educational experience including digital and physical learning environment provided by the state of art technologies they are about to introduce.
The management also said, with Honoris in charge, the students and lecturers of the institution will have opportunities to students, research and faculties exchange programmes with their regional and international partners which will improve their teaching and learning experience.
