Biomedical Engineering University of Pittsburgh
On this page is the details of the Biomedical Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

University of Pittsburgh claim to offer Bioengineering as a program and not Biomedical Engineering.  To many people and even university academics, Biomedical Engineering is same as Bioengineering.

As a matter of fact Biomedical Engineering and Bioengineering are not totally same. The different between the two is not very clear though. The engineers and scientists describe Biomedical Engineering to be application of biological,  engineering and other science to medical innovation. Which means Biomedical Engineers focus their work on the application of engineering principles to improving healthcare systems.

Bioengineering on the other hand apply engineering principles to biology. Biology may not necessarily mean for medical application. And so, it could be concluded that Biomedical Engineering is encompasses in Bioengineering which is what University of Pittsburgh claim to teach.  Bioengineering is a broad base engineering discipline.
