Covenant University Go Head To Head With University of Ibadan in World University Ranking

This year world universities ranking has been published by TimesHigherEducation.com. This year edition pull a lot of surprise especially in the rating of Nigeria universities.

This year ranking saw Covenant University Go head to head with the Nigeria premier university, University of Ibadan. Both institutions were sitting on the position bracket 601-800. Alphabetically Covenant University was on top.

What this tell us is that Covenant University, a private tertiary institutions in Ota, Ogun State is fast gaining international reputation.

Covenant University was founded in 2002 while the University of Ibadan was founded in 1948. That means what UI was able to achieved in 61 years of it existence Covenant University was able to achieve it in just 17 years. Could you imagine what level the university would be operating by the time it 25 or 30 years old.

This development is making Nigeria educational sector more competitive and more interesting. The vision of the Federal Government of Nigeria to allow private universities is starting to yield results.  Can we say University of Ibadan is resting it oars?

Another Nigerian university on the list is University of Nigeria, Nsukka. No other Nigeria private university appeared on the ranking.

This year ranking features 1250 universities from around the world, using 13 performance indicators which includes but not limited to research work, teaching techniques, knowledge transfer, citation, industry incomes and international outlook.

TimesHigherEducation.com says the calculation for this year ranking was audited by PriceWaterHouseCoppers, making it the only global university ranking that was subjected to independent examination.
