School of Nursing UCH Sent Home Some of Their Students

Last week was a bad one for some of the students of School of Nursing, University College Hospital (UCH) Ibadan.

The students, about five in number were send packing from school because of their poor academic performance. The affected students received the news not to resume back to the school while everyone of them were on two weeks holiday to to various places.

These five students were part of those offered admission into the school for 2018/2019 academic year.

About ten thousand candidates from all parts of Nigeria sat for the entrance examination that admitted these five students. Fifty-one students were offered admission but only thirty-one of those offered admission were able to turn up.  The supplementary list increase the intake to fifty-five and now five of them are send packing home, just after six months at school.

Many people in the society have started commenting on the action of the school authority. While some people believe the action is good, taken into consideration what nursing profession entails and the fact that the action is part of the effort to sanitised decaying Nigeria educational system but some people didn't think that way.

The people that didn't think that way believe the students should not have been sent home taken into consideration the amount of school fee they paid and the huge amount of money each of the student parents has spend on them the past six months.

Sending students pack home is not a new thing in the school community, it a yearly exercise. Whenever students are admitted, the school authority try as much as possible to get them informed about the challenges it requires to become a qualify nurse especially from the school. From the very beginning, the students are told that performances below the school expectation are send packing home.

Action like this make students who wish to go to the UCH School of Nursing in the future to sit tight.
