About 30 Nigerian tertiary institutions students had been selected by the EducationUSA Fund Opportunity to study at various American universities.
The programme which was cordinated in Nigeria by the US Mission Nigeria will see the selected students attending various American universities of their choice on the scholarship worth $7.2 million spanning four years.
The students were those categorised as underprivileged. They would not have been able to get university education even in Nigerian on their own or the support of their parents or guidances.
The EducationUSA Opportunity Fund also give grant worth $8.3 million in scholarship to about 138 members of the body.
Acting Deputy Chief of Mission in Nigeria while speaking to the US bound students admonished them to represent Nigeria well while studying in US. He stated that they should make good use of the opportunity present to them to get quality education.
The US bound students had already been given admission by various USA universitites for undergraduate and graduate courses which includes but not limited to engineering, computer science, biological science and business.
EducationUSA Opportunity Fund is one of the educational programme of US Embassy and Consulate in Nigeria. It was founded in 2008 with the purpose to better the education career of determined and interlligent students from low income families, who only need financial support and exposure to better information.
The programme is designed for the pupil of secondary schools in Nigeria. Students of tertiary institutions of learning are not eligible for the programme. Even a secondary school students who has just be given admission is not qualify, as stated by the rules and regulations of the programmes.
For any students from Nigeria to be considered, he/she must apply by filling application form on the website of US Embassy and Consulate in Nigeria.
EducationUSA Opportunity Fund is also available for graduate students to make use of to further their education in any of their choice USA Universitites.
