The state started the polytechnic education in Nigeria with the establishment of Yaba College of Technology back in 1947 and ironically the polytechnic was the first higher education institution to be established in the country.
Having have the first polytechnic in Nigeria, today, there are seven number of existing polytechnics in Lagos.
Private bodies control the polytechnic education in Lagos State because among the six known polytechnics in the state 2/3 of the number are owned by them. Among these private polytechnics are even some of the oldest in Nigeria.
Though the number of existing polytechnic in Lagos is six more could still be established in future.
