Gombe State does not has many tertiary education institutions. Many of their higher schools of learning were either formed just after its creations which was in 1996 or inherited from the old Bauchi State (Gombe was formerly part of Bauchi State).

There was no Gombe State Polytechnic, until recently when the present state government under the amiable Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo inaugurated it this year.
