The inherited polytechnic: Federal Polytechnic, Ado Ekiti was founded in 1977. The school is even older than the host state - Ekiti - which was founded in 1996.
The two other polytechnics in Ekiti State were founded few year after the creation of the "Land of Honour and Integrity" and they are owned by private organisations.
Localisation of these polytechnics is not evenly distributed among the towns and cities of the state. Two polytechnics (one private and the other federal government owned) are located in Ado Ekiti, the state capital, while the other private polytechnic is located in Ikere-Ekiti.
Until now, Ekiti State does not have a polytechnic it can called it own.
