The school may not be among the universities where engineering could best be offered as a programme in Nigeria, but several positive testimonies, the achievements and the impact of the alumni of the institution in the society point to the fact that aspiring to study engineering at the institution is a good decision any student could made.
Federal University, Akure (FUTA) offers eight engineering courses at it School of Engineering which was established in 1988.
Three courses pioneered the commencement of the programme on the establishment of the school and they were Mechanical, Civil and Eletrical and Electronic Engineering.
Some thirty years after, the university is able to grow the number of it engineering programmes to eight and they are listed below.
- Computer Engineering
- Agricultural Engineering
- Civil Engineering
- Electrical and Electronics Engineering
- Industrial and Production Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Metallurgical and Material Engineering and
- Mining Engineering
All the programmes run for a duration of five years (10 semesters) for the ordinary level or school certificate holders and for four years for the students who get admitted by direct entry.
Note: all the courses are fully accredited by Council for Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) and National University Commission (NUC)
Admission Requirements
For a student to be considered for admission to study undergraduate degree of any of the above mentioned engineering programme he must have five credit passes from either
The five credit passes must include: English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and either Technical Drawing, Further Mathematics or in some uncommon instances Economics or Biology and must not be more than two sittings.
A student must pass Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and he must also pass the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) post UTME, making the required Cut-Off Mark for his chosen engineering programme.
All applicants with higher qualfication in engineering related programmes would be given direct entry admission if he meet the direct entry requirements for the course he choose to study.
- West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE)
- Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) or
- General Certifiate in Education Examination (GCE)
