Obafemi Awolowo University OAU Engineering Programmes and Admission Requirements

Engineering programmes at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Ile Ife started in 1962 just a year after the school was founded. At the inception, the faculty under which the engineering programmes were taught was called Faculty of Science and it was opened with Agricultural Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Food Science and Technology.

It was revealed that the then Faculty of Science is now what they called the Faculty of Technology.

Today, Obafemi Awolowo University, Faculty of Technology had grown to include eight departments  training students on how to solve life problems by designing, constructing, fabricating and processing.

The eight engineering programmes at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife are:

• Eletrical and Electronic Engineering 

With specialisation in Communication Engineering
Control and Instrumentation Engineering
Electrical Machine and Power Engineering
Electronic Material and Device Technology

• Agricultural and Environmental Engineering

with specialization in Farm Machinery/Crop Processing and Storage
Farm Structure and Environment/ Soil Water

• Mechanical Engineering

with specialisation in
Production Engineering
Machine Repair and Maintenance
Refrigeration and Air conditioning

• Chemical Engineering

• Civil Engineering 

with specialisation in
Structural Engineering
Environmental Engineering
Geotechnical Engineering and
Transportation

• Computer Science and Engineering 

Specialising in Computer Engineering

Each of the field of engineering is 5 years BSc degree programme for UTME candidate and 4 years for direct entry students.

Admission Requirements

For a student to be considered for admission to undergraduate degree of any of the above mentioned engineering programme he must have five credit passes from either

• West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE)
• Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) or
• General Certifiate in Education Examination (GCE)

The five credit passes must include: English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and either Technical Drawing, Further Mathematics or in some uncommon instances Economics or Biology.

A student must pass Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and he must also pass the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) post UTME, making the required Cut-Off Mark for his chosen engineering programme.
