OAU Mechanical Engineering and Entry Requirements

OAU mechanical engineering entry requirements

Mechanical Engineering in simple terms is an engineering discipline which is majoring in designing, production, maintenance and operation of machinery (cars, aircraft, weapons, motorcycles, mixers, crunchers, silos, wrist watches, cranes and more). It is one of the oldest form of engineering professions.

To be a good and competent Mechanical Engineer, one must have skill and knowledge in applying Mathematics and Engineering Physics using some tools like Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) to analyse, design and develop machines and equipments.

Toward achieving this, the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife, deploy different teaching and learning method such as classroom lectures, laboratories practical and constant industrial training to impart knowledge into the students of this programme.

Among the core courses the students of the Department of Mechanical Engineering are taught to become complete engineers are:

  • Engineering Materials
  • Engineer in Society
  • Engineering Communication
  • Theory of Machine
  • Manufacturing Technology
  • Thermodynamics
  • Fluid Mechanics
  • Engineering Metallurgy
  • Control System
  • Mechanics of Materials
  • Engineering Drawings
  • Machine Design
  • Statistics for Physical Science and Engineering
  • Engineering Management
  • Engineering Law
