NDA Engineering Courses and Admission Requirements

At Nigerian Defence Academy there are many specialised courses for any prospective students to study. You don't go to the school without you having it at the back of your mind the area of specialisation you want. Though it is a military school, you must pass out as professional in a field of study. Maybe as an army mechanical engineer or civil engineer and many more..

The undergraduate programs at NDA is called Regular Combatant Course (RC). The programme offers three engineering courses and they are listed below:

  • Civil Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering and 
  • Electrical Engineering
Training for all the programme last for a duration of five years leading to the award of Bachelor of Engineering (BEmg) degree. The first four years is dedicated to academic programmes while the last one years is for military training.

Just like any other universities engineering programmes, the three courses are approved by National University Commission and are fully accredited by Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN). An engineering qualification from NDA can be used to seek for an employment in companies and industries outside military establishment.

Entry Requirements

Admission into Regular Combatant Courses at NDA is by UTME. An applicant must meet the UTME cut off mark as one of the prerequisites to gaining admission into the Defence Academy. Don't be surprised that you have to do this, the school is governed by National University Commission regulations and standard. The Defence Academy is a University but for the training of military personnel.

After meeting UTME cut off mark, an applicant will then have to sit for NDA coordinated entrance examination which we can call NDA post UTME, which is followed by Armed Forces Selection Board interview.

An applicant is able to participate in the above entry examination processes only if he has completed and passed one of the secondary school examinations listed below:

  • West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE)
  • Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE)/(NECO)
  •  General  Certificate of Examination (GCE)
The examination result must be five credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Physics Chemistry and either Technical Drawing or Further Mathematics at not more than two sittings.

In addition to the above, for an applicant to be considered for an admission into NDA, he/she must be:

  • Mentally and physically fit (medical examination will be conducted on him/her)
  • Minimum of 17 years or maximum of 21 year at entrance
  • 1.68 meter high (Males) or 1.50 meter high (Females)
  • Good characters
  • Must present state of origin certification. Admission is based of state quota.
  • Must not be awaiting result at entrance.
  • Senior Secondary School Examination result presented must not be more than five years before the date of application.
