University of Agriculture Makurdi Engineering Courses and Admission Requirements

There are many colleges of agriculture and research institutes in Nigeria but just only two are under the auspices of National University Commission ((NUC). The others are under the control of National Board of Technical Education (NBTE).

Federal University of Agriculture Makurdi (Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University) one of the two agricultural institutions under the authority of NUC started it engineering programmes back in 1981. The programme was inherited from the defunct Federal University of Technology Makurdi which later became University of Jos, Makurdi satellite campus.

Currently Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University offers four Engineering Programmes as listed below

  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Agricultural and Environmental Engineering
  • Civil Engineering
  • Electrical and Electronics Engineering
All these engineering courses run for a duration of five years leading to the award of Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) at undergraduate level.

At postgraduate degree level (MEng, PGD and PhD) the are run for a duration of two years.

Candidates who were given admission through UTME are allowed to use maximum of seven years to do any of the programmes and six or five years for those that entered through direct entry.

All the engineering courses at University of Agriculture, Makurdi are approved by the National University Commission NUC and fully accredited by Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria COREN.
