Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai is billed to commence construction of new hostel facilities in no distant time so as to reduce problems of being faced by students of the Institution.
The State Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Science and Technology, Dr Abubakar Baba Aliyu made this known while on a familiarisation visit to the University.
He disclosed that every arrangement has been concluded to mobilize contractors to site, explaining that the project comprises two block of hostels one for male and the other for female students.
Dr. Aliyu emphasised on the importance of the project to the State Government, adding that the present administration under the leadership of Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello was very passionate about providing students of IBB University with enabling environment for learning.
The Commissioner assured that no efforts would be spared towards attracting funds for the accelerated development of the Institution. He commended the Management of the Institution for the feats attained and charged them to continue to work hard towards making the University envy of others in Africa sub region.
Also in his remarks, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Engr. Abubakar Salisu stated that the visit was at the instance of the Visitor/ Executive Governor of Niger State, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello. He said that the Governor has directed the Ministry to have first-hand knowledge of challenges facing all the Tertiary Institutions in the State so that deliberate measures could be put in place to address them.
Welcoming the Commissioner to the University, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abu Kasim Adamu congratulated Dr Abubakar Baba Aliyu on his appointment as the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Science and Technology. He stated, with his appointment to oversee Tertiary Institutions in the State, a lot of positive developments would be experienced given his background.
Professor Adamu briefed the Commissioner on some developments in the University and myriads of challenges facing the Institution. The Vice-Chancellor appealed for urgent intervention of the State Government on some foundation projects in the University that have suffered serious neglect in the past. He reaffirmed the Management's preparedness to work together with the Ministry towards taking the University to greater heights.
Professor Adamu also pointed out the need for the State Government to assist the University on the development of its Suleja campus due to potential benefits to the State and Country in general.
In his vote of thanks, the Registrar, Alhaji Musa Ango Abdullahi expressed appreciation for the visit by the top echelons of the Ministry of Tertiary Education and expressed optimism for a continued harmonious working relationship for the growth of the University.
The Commissioner was accompanied on the visit by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Engr. Abubakar Salisu and other Directors. The climax of the visit was inspection of some uncompleted foundation projects such as Economics Department, Senate Building and the site of the proposed additional student Hostels.
