UTME Candidates

To study Marine Engineering at RSU a student must have minimum of credit passes in five O/L subjects from:
  • WASSCE: West African Senior School Certificate of Examination
  • GCE: General Certificate of Education or
  • SSCE: Senior Secondary Certificate of Examination 
at not more than two sittings and the subjects must include:
  • Physics
  • Mathematic
  • English Language and 
  • Chemistry
Plus one of the following:
  • Biology
  • Data Processing
  • Technical Drawing
  • Further Mathematics
  • Economics
  • Agricultural Science
  • Geography
The student must sit for, pass an make the cut off mark of  UTME The UTME subjects combinations are:
  • Physics 
  • Mathematics
  • Chemistry and
  • English Language
He must also sit for and pass Rivers State University post UTME and make the Cut-Off Mark for the Department of Marine Engineering.

Direct Entry Candidates

For a direct entry applicant to be considered for admission to study Marine Engineering at Rivers State University, he must have the following:
GCE A/L: at least passes from two subjects (Physics and Mathematics) to be considered for 200 levels

National Diploma (ND): Upper credit in relevant engineering programmes to be considered for 200 level.

Higher National Diploma (HND): Upper credit in relevent engineering programmes to be considered for 300 level.

All these plus the credit passes in five O/L subjects as s listed above.

Marine Engineering at Rivers State University lasted a duration of five (5) years after which Bachelor of Technology (BTech) certificate is awarded after successful completion of the programme.
