Medical Engineering and Requirements | Technical University Mombasa

There are two varieties of undergraduate Medical Engineering at the Technical University of Mombasa and they are Bachelor of Science in Medical Engineering and Bachelor of Technology in Medical Engineering.

While Bachelor of Science in Medical Engineering focus on the theoretical class work, Bachelor of Technology is more focus on practical hand-on-work. Student can choose one according to his liking.

Technical University of Mombasa is the only known university in Kenya where Medical Engineering is taught. The programme is taught elsewhere as Biomedical Engineering and it has been around for a while but it is just that some  universities are recently adding it to their offered programmes. 

The programme is about application of engineering principles and innovation to the field of medicine and healthcare. So, medical engineers design, develop and maintain tools, gadgets and equipment for the safe and efficient delivery of healthcare services.

Entry Requirements 

  • KCSE Mean Grade C+ (Plus) with C+(Plus) in Mathematics, English/Kiswahili, Physics, or Physical Sciences 

OR 

  • Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education (KACE) of at least two principal passes in mathematics and physics and a subsidiary pass

OR 

  • KNEC Diploma in Medical Engineering OR Diploma in Technology Medical Engineering with at least Credit Pass OR Higher Diploma in Medical Engineering. 


Accreditation 

Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Medical Engineering at Technical University of Mombasa is accredited by the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK) and the Commission for University Education (CUE)
