UNSW Get $432,485 Grant for Research into Misinformation and How to Eliminate It

The University of New South Wales (UNSW) have been awarded a grant of $432,485 (Four Hundred and Thirty Two Thousands, Four Hundred and Eighty Five Dollars to undertake a research project on misinformation and it's spreading especially on social media. 

The grant was awarded the University of New South Wales by the Australian Research Council (ARC). It is part of the larger $86,000,000 fund meant to finance about 200 research projects under the ARC's Discovery Early Career Researcher Award (DECRA) scheme to improve the live of individual in Australia. 

Using social media could be very fun because of wealth of information, entertainment and communication possibility therein. Social media also prove to be platform where a lot of inaccurate and deceptive information (misinformation) are spread by many unsuspecting users. 

While it is a believe that older  people often show will to be resilience against this misinformation the young age people are not always like that, the misinformation tend to affect them negatively, making them feel upset, annoyed, sad, angry and also scared.  

The grant awarded to the University of New South Wales is expected to be used into research which will make us better understand misinformation, how it evolved, distributed in online social media and proffer solutions to eliminate it to strengthen Australia’s resilience, especially during critical events. The research is expected to be undertaken by the early career researchers at the institution. 

Australian Research Council (ARC) Discovery Early Career Researcher Award (DECRA) scheme is design to support the early career researchers to improve their innovation and capability.
