Computer Engineering and Entry Requirements, ABU, Zaria

Undergraduate Computer Engineering at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria is a five (5) years programme which lead to the award of Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) degree on successful completion of the study. 

The Department of Computer Engineering gained autonomous in 2017, having previously been part of the Department of Electrical Engineering.

Studying Computer Engineering at ABU Zaria expose students to research and study areas such as:
  • Image Processing and Computer Vision
  • Control System, Artificial Intelligence and Robotic
  • Application Development and Embedded System and 
  • Cyber Security and Networking
The Computer Engineering programme at ABU Zaria is accredited by the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria COREN and it recognised by the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) and Computer Professional Registration Council of Nigeria (CPIN)

Note: application to study  undergraduate Computer Engineering programmes at ABU is either as JAMB/UTME candidates or DIRECT ENTRY candidates.

JAMB/UTME Candidates (O/Level Result)

Students must have at least five (5)  O/L credit passes in:
  • English Language
  • Mathematics
  • Physics
  • Chemistry and any of the 
  • Biology
  • Agricultural Science
  • Technical Drawing
  • Further Mathematics
  • Geography
  • Data Processing
  • Metal Work
  • Economic 
The result must not be at more than two (2) sittings.

JAMB University Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME)
Students must sit for, pass and make the cut off mark for UTME. The UTME subject combination to study Computer Engineering at ABU Zaria are:
  • Mathematics
  • Physics
  • English Language and 
  • Chemistry
ABU Zaria Post UTME Test.
Students must also sit for and pass ABU Zaria post UTME examination making the cut off mark for the Department of Computer  Engineering.

Post UTME subjects combination is same as for the JAMB/UTME.

DIRECT Entry Candidates

  • Two (2) Advance Level (A/L)/IJMB in Physic, Mathematics and Chemistry to be considered to 200 level of Computer Engineering
  • National Diploma (ND): Upper Credit in Computer Engineering to be considered to 200 level.
  • HND Computer Engineering or other relevant Engineering programmes with minimum of Lower Credit, to be considered for admission to 300 level.
