The Department of Food Science and Engineering, LAUTECH form the part of the eight Departments  that constitute the Faculty of Engineering and Technology. It was established in 1990, among many other things to:

  • Produce graduates who will be in position to contribute to the provision of adequate, safe and nutritional food products and 
  • Train personnel needed to establish, direct and manage small and medium scale food industries by using locally available raw material.
Food Science and Engineering at LAUTECH happens to be the first Bachelor degree programme in the country and allow students to graduate with a specialisation in Food Science or Food Engineering having gone through study of about seventy five courses, participatesd in SIWES at 400 level and completed and approved minimum number of  units. 

Entry Requirements

Application to study Food at LAUTECH is done to ways:
  • As JAMB/UTME Candidates and
  • As DIRECT ENTRY Candidates

JAMB/UTME Candidates:

Each JAMB/UTME candidate must possess O'Level credit passes in minimum of five subjects which must include:
  • Mathematics
  • English Language
  • Physics and 
  • Chemistry and one other Science subjects
  • Biology
  • Technical Drawing
  • Further Mathematic
  • Data Processing
  • Agricultural Science
The five credit passes must not be more than at two sittings from either one or two of :
  • GCE
  • SSCE or
  • WSSCE
The JAMB/UTME Candidates must also sit for and pass UTME, making the required cut off mark.
The UTME subjects combination are:
  • Mathematics
  • Physics
  • Chemistry and 
  • English Language
After scaling through the UTME, the candidates must then write LAUTECH Post UTME  making the cut off mark for the Department of Food Science and Engineering.

The JAMB/UTME Candidates are offer admission to 100 level of Food  Science and Engineering programme.

Direct Entry Candidates

Application through direct entry eligible candidates admission to 200 level or 300 level of the LAUTECH Food Science and Engineering programme and following qualifications are accepted for admission:

GCE A' Level: three good passes in Mathematic, Physic and Chemistry will be accepted onto 200 level.

ND (National Diploma): minimum of Upper Credit in Food Science or Food Engineering or other relevant engineering programmes accepted onto 200 level

HND (Higher National Diploma): minimum of Upper Credit in Food Science or Food Engineering or relevant other engineering programme accepted onto 300 level.

LAUTECH pre degree programme is accepted. It not automatic. A candidate must make.the required grade to be considered for admission to 100 level. If a candidate score lesser than 50% in a subject, he must have credit pass in the subject at secondary school.

Food Science and Engineering at Ladoke Akintola University (LAUTECH) Ogbomoso is a minimum of five years degree programme leading to the award of Bachelor of Technology (BTech) honour in Food Science or  Food Engineering. The programme is accredited by the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) and National University Commission (NUC)
