Mechanical Engineering curriculum at University of Jos UNIJOS follow recommendation by the Nigeria Society of Engineering (NSE), Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) and National University Commission (NUC) and that means highly academic skills and moral standard are being imparted into students of the Department.

Teaching Mechanical Engineering at UNIJOS is done in such a way that will expose the students to adequate practical trainings on top of their classroom theoretical study and thereby equipped them with skill to solve engineering and technology problems, the types required for the labour market.

Years to study Mechanical Engineering is divided into two at UNIJOS and that are the Foundation Years: which refers to the 100 level and the 200 level and the Professional Years which are 300, 400 and 500 levels. They are the years when teaching and learning are focus on the core courses which prepare students to become professional Mechanical Engineers.

Entry Requirements

Application to study Mechanical  Engineering at UNIJOS is done two ways:

  • As JAMB/UTME Candidates and
  • As DIRECT ENTRY Candidates

JAMB/UTME Candidates
To be offer provisional admission to 100 level, JAMB/UTME candidates must have sit for and pass either of the following examinations:

  • WASSCE or 
  • SSCE/NECO or
  • GCE
The pass must be in minimum of five subjects and the subjects combination are:
  • Physics
  • Mathematics
  • Chemistry and 
  • English Language plus either
  • Biology
  • Geography
  • Technical Drawing
  • Data Processing
  • Agricultural Science
  • Further Mathematics
  • Metal Work
  • Economic 
The credit passes should not be at  more than two sittings.

The candidate must also sit for and pass JAMB/UTME, making the required cut off mark.
JAMB/UTME subjects combination are:

  • Mathematics
  • Physics
  • Chemistry and 
  • English Language


University of Jos Post UTME
A JAMB/UTME candidate must also sit for and pass UNIJOS coordinated post UTME making the required cut off mark.

DIRECT ENTRY Candidates
To be considered for a provisional admission to study Mechanical Engineering at UNIJOS, candidates must be holder of at least one of the following qualification:

  • GCE A/L: passes in three Science subject including Physics and Mathematic will be accepted to 200 level of the programme.
  • Pre-Degree programme of UNIJOS is accepted for admission to 100 level provided a student is able to achieve the required points to study the the Mechanical Engineering.
  • National Diploma (ND): holders of ND in relevant Engineering discipline with minimum grade of Upper Credit will be considered for admission into 200 level
  • HND: HND holder in relevant Engineering programmes with Lower Credit will be considered for 200 level.
The applicants seeking for admission through Direct Entry must have O/L results as stated above.

Mechanical Engineering is a five years programme. BEng in Mechanical Engineering is awarded to students on successful completion of the study. The maximum duration of years allowed to study the programme is seven years.
