University Students Invented Glowing Brick from Oyster Shell

A Group of Students from the  Thammasat University, Thailand have invented a type of brick block which can glow in the light using oyster shell waste common in their community.

The invention is aim at combating the myriad of oyster shell waste that have been disturbing Ban Takad Ngow community, Chanthaburi province for long and also create a source of income for them.

The MITR Team from Thammasat University came up with the idea to participate in the "The Honour The King Legacy Project" coordinated by the Nissan Motor, Thailand. The competition is aim to encourage students to come up with idea and design solution to various community waste problems which may also earn them passive incomes.

The invention which was tag "Brick Tough Tough" and " Sparkling Walkaway" have been declared the winner of the competition. The product is a brick block made with mixture of oyster shell and concrete. It can be used to decorate garden and in building construction. The product is lightweight, absorb less water and flexible. It can be moulded in different shapes and sizes depend on where and what is going to use for.

While commenting on the invention and the achievement of team MITR from Thammasat University, President of Nissan Motor, Thailand, Mr Ramesh Narasimhan said, "it is a pleasant and impressive task, noting that the idea of Team MITR solve community waste problems and create source of revenue for them and that is the idea behind the completion".

As a prize for their winning invention, Team MITR received 250,000 BAHT as educational fund and 50,000 BAHT for their school from Nissan Motor Thailand, the sponsor and the coordinator of the competition event.
