The three top Universities for Mining engineering in United State of America has decided to team up to build a center which will be used for mine tailing research and education.

The three universities are the Colorado School of Mines (the best Mining School in the world), Colorado State University and the University of Arizona. The officials from the schools have signed the memorandum of understanding that define the scopes of the corporation which focus on training mining engineers on the best practices to manage mine tailing responsibly and sustainability through the application of latest engineering technology and research.

A report from miningweekly.com stated that when the building of the center is completed, it will prioritize offering online and in-person short courses and workshops in mine tailing management for serving mining engineers and professional and also awarding inter varsity certificate in relevant area of the discipline while at the same time serving as medium for the dissemination of best practices and formulation of the industry standard.

While commenting on the initiative, a Colorado School of Mine Professor Priscilla Nelson says, "The mining industry is extremely concerned about the management of tailing, especially as companies increasingly rely on large-scale extraction of ever-lower grade ore deposits, a process that yields large volumes of waste materials.

The Professor further stated that the center of excellence “will serve as a center for coordination for all the international efforts that are going on in tailing management”.
