OOU Mechanical Engineering and Entry Requirements

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye impart knowledge in their students by rigorous classroom lectures, regular laboratory practical work and by sending them on constant industrial training to accustom them with how mechanical engineering is being practise in real world.

Among many of the.laboratories the Department of Mechanical Engineering at OOU provide to develop the experience of their students on practical work are: Fluid Mechanics Laboratory, Thermodynamics / Heat Transfer Laboratory, Solid Mechanics Laboratories, Machine Design Laboratory and Materials Laboratory. Some others are being developed.

Mechanical Engineering is a five (5) years programme to the students admitted to 100 level. It is accreditation by both the National University Commission (NUC) and Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN).

Bachelor of Science (BSc) is awarded students on successful completion of the undergraduate study.


Entry Requirements

O'level/UTME Candidates 

Five (5) O'level subjects with minimum of credit passes which must include:
  • Mathematics
  • English Language
  • Physics
  • Chemistry plus one of
  • Technical Drawing
  • Further Mathematics
  • Biology
  • Geography or 
  • A Relevant Trade Subjects like
  • Welding and Fabrication
  • Data Processing and 
  • Auto Mechanic
  • Metalwork

The five subjects must be at not more than two sitting from one or two of the following examination qualifications

  • West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE)
  • Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE)
  • General Certificate of Education (GCE O'level) or
  • NABTEB

JAMB's Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME)

O'level/UTME candidates must sit for, pass and make the cut off mark for UTME. He must also participate in Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) coordinated post UTME screening making the Department of Mechanical Engineering cut off mark.

Direct Entry Candidates

The Department of Mechanical Engineering OOU accept these under listed qualifications from direct entry candidates.

  • General Certificate of Education, Advance Level (GCE A'Level): credit pass in Mathematics and Physics.
  • National Diploma (ND): upper credits in relevant engineering courses
  • Higher National Diploma (HND): upper credits in relevant engineering programme
  • Joint Unified Preliminary Examination Board JUPEB: 
Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye also consider holders of pre-degree qualification for admission to 100 level of Mechanical Engineering.

All applicants seeking admission through direct entry must provide  O'level result as stated above. They are admitted to 200 level of course.
