The donated money is meant to be channeled toward empowering young people in Africa by the establishment of Afe Babalola African Centre for Transnational Education.
A publication by the King's College London noted that, the new centre, when put into use will expose young Africans to education and opportunities which ordinarily they might not be able to have. This follows the vision for the Centre which is based on using education to empower young African people, thereby enable them to make positive impact within the communities they live and the world at large.
The publication revealed further that the centre will be accessible to young and talented African students who have had their dreams of higher education disrupted due to displacement, conflict and other occurrences.
The Afe Babalola African Centre for Transnational Education is said will make available offers which include series of mixed and online programmes plus postgraduate diplomas and Master degree programmes.
Alongside other funding partners, the Afe Babalola donation will also covers scholarship for bright and highly talented students who might not be able to access these programmes owing to financial constrain so that they will be able to acquire knowledge in nature and in the impact of transnational education on Africa’s development.
The programmes at the centre are to be designed and developed by the University of London and in partnership with notable African Universities, while the modules will be crafted in such ways as to equipped the students with skills which will be beneficial to themselves, the community within which they live and their future. Such programmes are engineering, laws, health sciences, leadership, peace and security.
