In a keenly contested election to decide who to clinch the exalted position, Prof. Nwigbo polled a total of 87 votes to emerge the new Dean while his opponent, Prof. Louis Orakwe of the Department of Agric and Bioresources Engineering polled 31 votes. 118 voters were accredited before the election.
Professor Solomon Nwigbo will be taken over from Engr. Prof. Joseph Tagbo Nwabanne who ascend the position in 2019 and whose tenure in office end this year.
Congratulating the new Dean, the Vice-Chancellor, represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Joseph Ikechebelu charged him to work harmoniously with members of the Faculty. The University registrar was represented at the election by the Deputy Registrar (Personnel) and Council Member, Pastor Sam Ufoh.
In his response, Prof. Nwigbo expressed thanks to God, the Vice-Chancellor, the outgoing Dean and members of the Faculty.
He described the victory as a great privilege, a sign of love and responsibility.
