Petroleum and Gas Engineering is taught at the Nigeria Maritime University (NMU) with focus on the maritime industry and to develop skill manpower with technical know how in the oil and gas sector. 

Listed below are the entry requirements to study for a Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) in the Department of Petroleum and Gas Engineering, Nigeria Maritime University (NMU) Delta State. This include for the school certificate holders and direct entry applicants plus the WAEC and JAMB subjects combination. 


Note: all applications (O'Level and Direct Entry) are process by JAMB.


O'Level Entry Requirements  

O'Level applicants must provide five (5) subjects at credit level not more than at two sittings 

WAEC Subjects Combination 

  • English Language 
  • Mathematics 
  • Physics 
  • Chemistry and 
  • any other relevant science subject like 
  • Technical Drawing 
  • Further Mathematics 
  • Data Processing 
  • Biology 
  • Agricultural Science 

From one or two of the following qualification exams. 

  • WAEC, 
  • NECO and
  • NABTEB

JAMB Coordinated UTME 

O'Level applicants must make the cut off mark for JAMB coordinated UTME and the Department of Petroleum and Gas Engineering NMU. 

JAMB Subjects Combination  

  • Physics 
  • Chemistry 
  • Mathematics 
  • English Language 


Nigerian Maritime University Pre-Degree Programme 

Nigeria Maritime University (NMU) Pre-degree allow students who could not make admission through UTME  to facilitate entry to 100 level at the Department of Petroleum and Gas Engineering. 


Direct Entry Requirements Nigeria Maritime University (NMU)

Candidates who are applying for an admission through Direct Entry, must have one of the following qualifications. 
  • Advance Level (HSC/GCE/A'Level/IJMB/JUPEB): passes in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. 
  • National Diploma (ND) : upper credit in relevant engineering courses and
  • Higher National Diploma (HND): upper credit in relevant engineering courses. 

O'Level and Pre-degree qualifications holders are admitted to 100 level while direct entry applicants are admitted to 200 level. HND and first degree holders are eligible to 300 level.
