The maiden edition of Arc. Olusegun Olanrewaju Aluko Annual Students Competition: Writing and Public Speaking have seen a winner emerged in the person of Ayangbenro Modupelola.
Miss Ayangbenro Modupeola, a year one HND Mass Communication student in the School of Communication and information Technology of Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, emerged the winner of the competition with theme: Conversion of Polytechnics to Universities; Implications for TVET and Technological Advancement in Nigeria.
The annual competition was established to immortalise the immediate past Rector, Arc. O. O. Aluko in recognition of his enormous contributions towards the development of the institution.
The nine finalists who took turn to support or oppose the theme enlightened the audience with well articulated points to justify the side of the debate they belonged to.
Ayangbenro emerged winner of the grand finale of the event which took place today 13th May, 2023, the birthday of the immediate past Rector, Arc.Olusegun Olanrewaju Aluko Ph.D at the Multi purpose Hall of the institution.
She went home with a #300, 000 having beaten Miss Osinfade Oluwadamilola Elizabeth of the department of Taxation and Miss Jolaosho Eniola Victoria of the department of Public Administration to second aid third positions and carting away #200, 000 & #100, 000 prize money respectively.
In his welcome address, the Chairman of the Organising Committee of competition, Tpl. A.T Ajala explained that the competition was set up with the aim of promoting intellectual and leadership qualities among polytechnic students and all round development of the Nigerian Youths.
The Rector of the institution, Dr Mukhail Aremu Akinde in his address stated that the competition was established to identify and celebrate raw talents in the higher institutions of learning.
He adfed that the competition is a strategic action embedded in strategic planning of the institution which is all inclusive to increase students welfare . The Programme according to him is an annual event that gives room for students to showcase their technological endowment /talents in all categories and bringing all these out to public towards nation building.
The honoree, the immediate past Rector and the birthday 'boy' Arc. Olusegun Aluko was full of praises for the management, led by the Rector, Dr Akinde, staff and students of the institution for deeming it to honor him with a competition of this magnitude, which according to him highlighted his strong commitment towards the development of the future leaders.
He prayed that these students will continue to be good ambassadors of this great citadel of academic excellence.
The grand finale was laced with comedy and music talents presentations which showcased the inherent talents in the students.
All participants were encouraged with consolation prizes at the end of the event which witnessed by all the Principal Officers, Deans of Schools, Directors of Service Units, past Deputy Rectors, immediate past Bursar amongst other staff and students of the Polytechnic.
The event which was chaired by Chief Mrs Iyabo B. Apampa, a Governing Council member, represented by the incumbent Bursar, Mr. M. B. Akinola, FCA had Barr. T. O. Ogunseye, Ph.D, Barr. H. O. Dawodu, Dr. (Mrs) O. To. Afolayan and Mr. P. Seyi-Gbangbayau as the Panel of Judges.
