Catriona Jackson, Universities Australia
An Australian universities executive have stated that for the Australian submarine program to be a success, the government must work closely with the academic community especially the universities.

Universities Australia Chief Executive Catriona Jackson said government must work directly with the country universities to establish the much talk about Australian Submarine Agency.

The Australian Submarine Agency (ASA) when established will be responsible for the management, enforcement of executive order and oversight of  Australian Nuclear Power Submarine program among many other things.

Australia Submarine Agency will be at the forefront of the Australian planned of acquisition of conventional armed and nuclear powered submarine to  ensure capabilities of it's military force against external aggression.

Catriona Jackson believes that the best option for the government in establishing Australian Submarine Agency is to work directly with the universities to ensure smooth and successful take off and delivery of it's mandates.

Chief Executive Catriona Jackson said.“Australia can’t deliver AUKUS without a significant boost to our defence capability,”

“The highly skilled workers needed to drive this are educated at our universities.

“At every stage of the process – from acquisition to construction to disposal – the project hinges on the skills and expertise of university-educated professionals.

“Government needs to recognise and acknowledge this.

“AUKUS is one of the most significant industrial undertakings in Australia’s history. It is too important to get wrong.

“Universities want to be in lockstep with government to ensure the project is delivered smoothly and successfully.

“We should be front and centre of all discussions and decisions around workforce and skills development.

“We look forward to continuing to engage with government on these issues of national importance.”
