Utah Valley University (UVU) have successfully broke ground on new College of Engineering and Technology building. This is coming just two years after the first proposal to build a new engineering building was made.

It was reported that the Scott M. Smith College of Engineering and Technology has outgrown it current facilities and capacity. It currently enrolled about five thousand (5000) students and thus the need for the construction of new engineering building.

The  propose five storey building when completed will help solve the problem of inadequate space for teaching and learning. The students of the College of Engineering and Technology are housed and they are currently being educated in the College of Computer Science.

The construction of the new Scott M. Smith College of Engineering and Technology building is estimated that it will cost $88 million when completed. The new  building will allow for the creation of more laboratories, office space, classrooms and conference rooms. The building is design to accommodate the existing and emerging technologies knowing that the number of students is growing and new technology is emerging everytime.

The state of art engineering building will be constructed fitted with smart sensors which will make it possible to monitor it's structural loading, heat gain and heat loss, and vital internal and external environmental factors such as the the indoor and outdoor air quality and more.

It will also provide space for interactive meeting, collaborative learning and environment where students will have a deep sense of belonging.

There will also be spaces for experimental education  and for manufacturing facilities where students can come together to perform hand-on education activities and where capacity for designing, fabrication, development and testing will be provided.
