In his determination to fight food insecurity in his constituency and n the same vein empower the youths for self sustenance, the Member Representing Isiala Ngwa North/Isiala Ngwa South Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, Hon. Ginger Obinna Onwusibe, has sought the assistance of the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umardike (MOUAU) Agribusiness Incubation Centre for the realisation of that goal.

Hon. Onwusibe disclosed this at the weekend in his country home, Amapu Ntigha in Isiala Ngwa North, when he received the Director of the MOUAU Agribusiness Incubation Centre, Dr. Philips Nto who paid him a visit to give overview of the operations of the Centre.

The youths according to the federal lawmaker, need to be given proper orientation on the rudiments of farming not only to sustain themselves but also to make profits out of it as a commercial venture. He expressed happiness that the mission of the Centre tallied with his vision of ending hunger and deprivation through agriculture and agribusinesses especially among the youths.

He said the establishment of the Agribusiness Incubation Centre at Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, was an answered prayer to the yearnings of his people who are seeking knowledge of modern ways of farming to earn a living.

Hon Onwusibe expressed gratitude to the Centre for the visit and commended University for her efforts aimed at eradicating poverty through improved farming methods and utilising the value chain in the agricultural sector.

The Amapu Ntigha-born politician, while pointing out the great assistance the Centre would be to Abia citizens, promised to mobilise his constituents through ward by ward to receive the necessary training at the Centre. He used the visit to commend the Vice-Chancellor of MOUAU, Prof. Maduebibisi Ofo Iwe for initiating the programme and the Director of the Centre, Dr Philips Nto for carrying the gospel of the Centre to the grassroots to intimate them on the benefits of the Centres.

On his remarks, the Director of the Centre, Dr. Philips Nto reiterated that many Nigerian farmers are unable to maximize yields because they lack of information and inadequate training. This, he said, discourages citizens from engaging in small and large scale farming. He promised that the Centre would leverage on her various packages to partner with the lawmaker to train his Agribusiness and general public in modern ways of Agriculture so as to improve their lives.

The director disclosed that agriculture is a lucrative enterprise when the right methods are employed, and announced that the MOUAU Agribusiness Incubation Centre came into existence to help farmers in that regard.

He praised Hon. Ginger Obinna Onwusibe for receiving the team at a short notice, saying that his antecedents and legacies as a Local Government chairman and State lawmaker had made him very popular in Abia State.
