The Polytechque Montreal is partnering with an Australia headquartered lithium exploration company with project sites in Canada and Singapore, Lithium Universe Ltd (ASX:LU7, OTC:LUVSF) to integrate the lithium refine processes and by-products into the academic curriculum.
Lithium, a versatile alkali metal is useful in the production of many products including mental health medication; glass and ceramics; lubricants and most importantly batteries use in powering laptops, smartphone and cars.
Despite these aforementioned applications, engineers and scientists are continually working to find more uses for the metal and in a safer, efficient and cost effective ways, thereby the need to integrate it in the academic curriculum for more studies, research and development.
According to a statement by the Lithium Universe Ltd CEO Alex Hanly, the collaboration aims to embed Lithium Universe’s specialized knowledge in lithium refining and byproduct applications into the university’s research and educational frameworks. He said the key initiatives of the partnership include industry-driven training, academic program enhancement & innovation and Sustainability Research.
This initiative follows Lithium Universe’s recent Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with 5evworld leading cement producer: Lafarge, aims to explores integrating aluminosilicate byproducts (ACSR) into cement and concrete production.
Hanly emphasized that both partnerships reflect the company’s strategic priorities: fortifying its supply chain, refining lithium processing efficiency, and cultivating critical industry alliances.
Looking ahead, Lithium Universe plans to advance funding negotiations in late 2024 while prioritizing additional strategic collaborations, including offtake agreements and partnerships with original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). These efforts underscore the company’s commitment to positioning itself at the forefront of the global lithium sector through innovation and cross-sector synergy.
By uniting industry acumen with academic rigor, the partnership with Polytechnique Montréal aims to drive technological breakthroughs and prepare a skilled workforce for the sustainable energy transition.
