Just recently was the number of medical practitioners in Nigeria swells by 57. This happened when Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) inducted 57 University of Porthacourt (UNIPORT) Medical Science graduands into medical profession.
The induction ceremony which was held at UNIPORT's Ebitimi Banigo auditorium saw 41 medical doctors and 16 dental surgeons taking Oaths of Ethics in the presence of invited guests which include parents, guardians, friends of the inductees and well wishers who filled the venue of the ceremony.
The ceremony which was held on May 30 witnessed the Rigisrar of the MDCN administered the Oath on the young doctors.
Speaking after the administration of Oath, the registrar Dr. Tajudeen Sanusi charged the newly inductees to be wary of their profession and reputations. He said they should guide against unethical practice in the course of discharging their duty to humanity.
Dr. Sanusi stressed that the council has appropriate punishment for offence commited by any of it members which includes suspension or revoking of the licence which once get, would tarnish their image and reputations.
In his own address, the UNIPORT' Vice Chancellor, Prof Ndowa Lale, after congratulating the inductees admonished them to be a good ambassador of the Institution. He then heaped praise on the Provost and other staffs of the School College of Health Science for job well done in imparting so much into the them.
The host of the induction ceremony, Provost of UNIPORT College of Health Science, Prof. Siminialayi use the opportunity to announce to the gathering that MDCN has approved the increase to the admissio quota for Medicine and Surgery in the University to 150, then urging the VC to give attention to the construction of customized building for college.
Other speakers at the ceremony are: Dr Osobonye Long John, Dr. Richard Oko-Jaja who represented UNIPORT' Teaching Hospital Chief Medical Director. Professor Henry Ugboma and Emeritus Professor Nimi Briggs former Vice Chancellor of the University.
