Further breakdown of the figure shows that all the private polytechnics in Oyo State are located in Ibadan, the state capital except Saf Polytechnic which is located in Iseyin, while one of the government owned polytechnics is located in Saki, the other two are located in Ibadan and in Eruwa.
Federal Government of Nigeria own no polytechnic in Oyo State. All the three government owned polytechnics in the "Pacesetter State" belong to the state government.
Oyo State has one of the oldest polytechnic in Nigeria. It flagship polytechnic, The Polytechnic Ibadan was founded in 1970 with the objective to train the state indigene in technical skill acquisition.
The State also has one of the oldest private polytechnic in Nigeria in Tower Polytechnic which was founded in 2010 just few years after the bill that allowed establishment of private polytechnic was passed by the Federal Government of Nigeria.
The polytechnic in Saki and Eruwa area of the state were once satellite campuses of the Polytechnic Ibadan, both became autonomous back in 2014.
