Osun State is one of the states in Nigeria with highest number of polytechnics. There are nine polytechnics in the State even Oyo  one of the oldest state in Nigeria, right now don't have this number of polytechnics.

The high number of tertiary educational institutions in Osun State especially polytechnics contribute to the reasons the state is adjudged one of the most educated in Nigeria.

As many as the polytechnics in Osun State are Federal Government of Nigeria owned just only one of them, the State Government control just only two.

Private organisations in Osun State are the driving force in the establishment and providing of affordable tertiary education in the state, thereby making quality education available to all the indigenes and non indigenes. They owned and managed six of the nine available polytechnics in "Land of Virtue".

Analyzing how these polytechnics are established shows that they are evenly distributed throughout the towns and cities of the state. No single town or city has more than one polytechnic unlike Oyo State which has four of it existing polytechnics situated in Ibadan alone.

The idea behind this arrangement is bringing quality education to the doorstep of the state citizens.

Further analysis shows that "Land of Virtue" had been having polytechnic as far back as 1981 with the establishment of Osun State College of Technology which was then one of the satellite campuses of The Polytechnic Ibadan.

The State also boost some of the oldest private polytechnic in Nigeria. The Polytechnic, Ile-Ife started operation as far back as 1994 before it was eventually approved and accredited by NBTE in 1999.
