According to a report made available to us, the visit of the delegates from TETFUND may have to do with the organisation readiness to fund some projects on the polytechnic campus. The reports, as seen goes thus:
the visit was historical but it may mark the beginning of intervention of TETFUND in the development of the school especially in the area of infrastructure, human resources and the provision of teaching and learning aids.
The Federal Polytechnic of Oil and Gas, Bonny managements team were led by the Rector of the institution Professor TM Abbey love. They received the delegete from the Tertiary Trust Fund (TETFUND) some early hours of the afternoon of Thursday 15.
TETFUND has a policy of sending delegates to inspect any tertiary institution which have applied for and is about to get intervention fund from the organisation.
On arrival the delegates from TETFUND were led into the school council chambers by the management of Federal Polytechnic of Oil and Gas, thereafter formal introduction was done between the two teams and it was coordinated by the school acting Public Relation Officer Mrs. Gift Green.
After the introduction and some interactive moment, the TETFUND delegates who were led by Malam Yakubu, the organisation Deputy Director of Strategy and Planning were ushered into the institution main auditorium where more rapport was made and some times were set apart for questions and answers among the various teams in the auditorium and staffs and students of the Federal Polytechnic of Oil and Gas, Bonny.
TETFUND delegates were thereafter taken round the school campus for proper inspection and to have first hand information about the academic activities on the campus.
TETFUND is abbreviation of Tertiary Education Trust Fund. Their objectives is to monitor, manage and disburse education tax to government (state or federal) owned tertiary institutions in Nigeria. The fund they distribute to tertiary institutions are meant to be used for congent projects, the type that would bring development to beneficiary institution. For a school to be benefited a formal application must be made to TETFUND. The scheme covers only universitites, polytechnics and colleges of education.
