The delegates led by the Acting Vice Chancellor (AVC) of the institution Professor Mahmud Saidu were on the visit purposely to seek NOUN assistance on the Open Distance Learning (ODL). They wanted to see what NOUN is doing about it's ODL programmes and understand how the system is being run.
While he was answering questions from the press, the AVC said, "We already have a pilot programme on Open Distance Learning that we started two years ago but we need to kick-start off properly that is why we are here".
He added by saying it was not in their plan to go seek for advice and assistance from outside the country but from an Africa Open University because they believe the challenges were same. The Professor said they have read a lot about the success stories of NOUN and they believe that they were at the right place.
Professor Mahmud later revealed that National University Commission (NUC) directed them to NOUN for assistance so they they will know the types of facilities they would have to put in place before commencing the programme fully.
Vice Chancellor of National Open University warmly welcome the delegate after which he told them the history of the school in brief and assured them that NOUN is ready to assist them in whatever way it can.
He later introduce to them some of the Directors of the institution who they will directly work with to achieve their objectives. He mentioned Professor Samaila Mande as the person who will be the Desk Officer. Other members of the team that will help the delegate were Prof Godwin Akper, Director of Exams and Assessment; Dr. Maidu Galadima, Director of ICT and Dr. Wale Adesina, Director of Learning, Content and Management System.
They will serve as technical advisers.
