Australian Universities that Offer Biomedical Engineering as a Course

universities in austrialia for biomedical engineerin
Biomedical Engineering is a field of engineering disciplines that apply biological science and engineering principles to improve healthcare delivery.

University of Melbourne One of the Most International Universities in Australia

To graduate as a professional biomedical engineering from a university a student will do many courses some of which are listed below:

  • Physiology for applied Biomedical
  • Biomedical Engineering Practice and Innovation
  • Mathematical Method for Biomedical Engineering
  • Principle of Medical Imaging
  • Principle of Medical Instrumentation and Devices
  • Applied Medical Image Processing
  • Biomedical Sensor
  • Imaging in Medicine.
  • Biomedical Sensors
  • Medical Sensors and Devices
  • Principles of Medical Instrumentation and Devices
  • Rehabilitation Engineering
  • Biophotonics
  • Brain Computer Interface

Australian Universities that Offer Biomedical Engineering as A Course.

  • Australian National University
  • Flinders University
  • Monash University (Biomedical Science)
  • Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology RMIT University
  • Swinburne University
  • University of Melbourne
  • University of Queensland (Electrical and Biomedical Engineering)
  • University of Sydney
  • University of Technology, Sydney
  • University of Wollongong
  • University of Western Australia (Biomedical Science)
  • Australian Catholic University (Biomedical Science)
  • La Tribe University (Biomedical Science).
  • Curtin University (Biomedical Science)
  • Deakin University (Biomedical Science)
However the Biomedical Engineering and Biomedical Science look similar yet they are not.

While Biomedical Engineering is an engineering discipline Biomedical Science is not.  Universities that do Biomedical Engineering have it under the Faculty of Engineering and Technology while the universities that do Biomedical Science have it under the Faculty of Health Science which include Medicine and Pharmacy.

You earn Bachelor of Engineering degree if you study Biomedical Engineering but Bachelor of Science degree if you study Biomedical Science and while Biomedical Engineering is run for 4 years full time, Biomedical Science runs for 3 years at full time.

Biomedical Engineers in addition to doing research engage in designing, developing and producing devices, tools  and machines that help to improve healthcare systems and delivery, they work as part of engineering team but Biomedical Scientists don't, they work mostly in medical laboratory, they work as part of medical science and healthcare personnel team.
