The E-Voting software which was developed by the University ICT department had been highly commended for it effectiveness despite being the first of it kind the university would made and for the fact that it comes at a time when the Vice Chancellor of the university was calling for the development of the institution Information and Communication Technology to become one of the best in the country.
Commending the E-Voting software solution and it excellent performance during the SUG election, Dr. Abel showered praises on the school management under the leadership of Professor Angela Freeman for the vision, support and the encouragement that led to the creation of the software. He particularly commended Dr. Edgar Osaghae, head of the institution ICT department for job well done for the development of the E-Voting software solution.
Speaking further the Dean of the student affairs said that the innovation of E-Voting was necessary to follow the evolving change in the society and to keep pace with the modern day technology advancement. He narrated that the system reduced the cost of conducting election by eliminating the use of ballot papers and boxes, it removed stress which could have arisen as a result of long queue to vote manually and it also save a lot of time which could have been expended on carrying boxes around and counting voting papers.
Mr Emmanuel Oladele a principal programmer and one of the team behind the design of the system said the E-Voting is simple to use, noting that majority of the students that participated in the voting exercise were able to easily navigate it. He said, if there is any detected shortcomings of the software, they are going to be corrected in due time.
