You may not be offered an admission to directly study Software Engineering at Stellenbosch University.  At the institution there is neither Department of Software Engineering nor Department of Computer Engineering/Science.

All that is written above doesn't mean you have no chance of learning software engineering or science at the prestigious university. The fact is that, the path to achieving this is unique.

Partway to Study Software Engineering at Stellenbosch University.

The course is available in the Department of Electrical and Electronic. The department have four area of specialisation which are Energy, Robotics, Telecommunications and Informatics.


While we are not concern with the first three area of specialisations because they have nothing to do with we are talking about, we go straight to the informatics specialisations.

Informatics: this field of specialisation is where the computer and software science and development are taught. What this mean is, for you to be able to study software engineering at Stellenbosch University you must enter through Electrical and Electronics after which you will be able to choose informatics as your area of specialisation. This branch is focused on high-level computer science and software systems (such as internet communications, virtual storage, etc.), but also gives a student a good foundation in computers and data, and includes hardware and software.
