Aeronautical Engineering is a discipline which interest is in the making of flying machines. For example aircraft. It is one of the engineering programmes that are taught in the university or some other higher institutions  of learning. It  prepares students for a career  in designing, maintaining, operating and the manufacturing of aircraft. It is one of the two branches of Aerospace Engineering.

Aeronautical Engineering is available for study in few of the South African universities and it requires students to be highly talented and intelligent in solving mathematical problems and physics.

Aeronautical Engineering at Stellenbosch University

Aeronautical Engineering at The Stellenbosch University is not designed for civilians but for the members of the South African Air Force (SAAF).

The programme focus on the technological aspect of military aviation and that is why it is being referred to as Aeronautical Science in the univeesity and not Aeronautical Engineering. The Department of Aeronautical Science is within the Faculty of the Military Science.
