Ghana Universities Games: Fans Arrested Over Attempt Attack on Referee

Some fans at the football match between  University of Ghana (UG) and the University of Development Studies (UDS) at the ongoing 26th Ghana Universities Student Association (GUSA) games are right now in hot water following their attempt to attack the match referee.

Trouble started when the referee issued a red card to a player for foul on the opponent.

The fans, who were numerous in numbers suddenly invaded the pitch and started pursuing the referee for what they believed was a wrong decision and poor officiating.

It was the timely intervention of the police and other security agents around that save the referee from the irate fans who were ready to inflict injuries on him.

While it was a believe by some people that the attackers were the students of the Legon other believe they were the students of the UDS. Those who believe they were students of the Legon claimed they connived with their Alumni to perpetrated the act.

Meanwhile some arrest had been made and those arrested are right now in the police custody.

The football match with all the hitches ended 1-1 at full time. But the University of Ghana eventually won the game on penalty shootout with the score: 4-3.
