Nine Members of University of Ibadan Researchers Benefited From TETFUND Research Grants

Professor Abel Idowu Olayinka (FAS) Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan (UI) on Monday 20, January 2020 presented letters of award TETFund Research Grant to nine University beneficiary researchers on behalf of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) under the TETFund National Research Fund (NRF) in a short ceremony held at the Senate Chamber, University of Ibadan.

While commenting on the research grant and the challenges of being granted one, the Vice-Chancellor commended the awardees for making the University proud and for winning the nine slots in a very keenly competitive procedures. The Vice Chancellor was referring to the comment made by the TETFund Chairman in one of his official engagement where he singled out the University of Ibadan for its numerous qualitative entries and their outstanding participation which resulted in the number of research grants won by the University.

The VC expressed his trust and belief in all the Principal Researchers and their team to make good use of the grants and possibly open up for further grants. He enjoined them to work assiduously with the timeline as contained in their approved research proposals.

The Vice-Chancellor thereafter presented the letter of award to the awardees on behalf of TETFund.

The Principal Researchers and their research project titles as sent from TETFund included:

  • Professor Aina Adeogun, Department of Zoology: Microplastics in the Aquatics Environment: Characterization of Food Safety, Biota and Human Health Implications of their Occurrence;
  • Prof O.A. Adegbesan, Department of Human Kinetics: An Investigation of Social – Cognitive and Biomedical Mechanisms for Prevention of Doping in Sport: A Mixed-Research Narrative in Nigeria.
  • Prof T.A. Akanji, Institute for Peace and Strategic Studies: Developing Standards for Monitoring Assessment and Evaluation of Peace and Conflict Management Projects in Nigeria.
  • Professor C.O. Onocha, Institute of Education: Evaluation of Instructional Dynamics in Nigeria Universities and Development of Teaching Quality Policy Report.
  •  Prof Ikeoluwapo O. Ajayi, Epidemiology and Medical Statistics: Development of a Package to Improve Hypertension Control in Nigeria.
  • Dr. Jibril Omuya Abdulmalik, Psychiatrists: Development and Implementation of University Mental Health Services in South West Nigeria.
  • Professor Regina E. Oladokun, Paediatrics: Molecular Epidemiology of Multidrug-Resistant Organism Invasive Disease in Children at the University College Hospital, Ibadan;
  • Dr. Idayat Gbadamosi, Botany: Ethnobotanical Approaches to Combat Metabolic Syndrome: A Study of Two Botanicals and
  • Prof Charles Owaba, Industrial and Production Engineering: Garment Sizing System for Nigerian Fashion, Fabrics and Size: Strategy to Mass Customization of Nigerian Adult Clothing.
