Bauchi State, Nigeria has two functioning polytechnics that is existing till today. Both are government owned.

The first polytechnuc to be established in the state was in July, 1979 during the rule of military regime of Head of State General Olusegun Obasanjo while Lt. General Garba Duba was the state military governor.  The school was established  three years after the state was created. It was revealed that Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi started out temporarily on one of the then teachers' college site. Today it is on it permanent site in Gwallameji Village, Bauchi State.


The school was formed among many other things: to provide full-time or part-time courses of instruction and training in the area of applied science, management, commerce and in engineering and technology as relevant to the needs of the development of Nigeria in the fields of industrial and agricultural production and distribution and for research in the development and adaptation of techniques. (b) To conduct conferences, seminars, and study groups in relation to the fields of learning as stated above.

The second polytechnic in the state at the time of writing this post is Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic. It was established as Bauchi State Polytechnic in 1988.  The name was changed to Abubakar Tatari Ali to honour the first civilian governor of the state who died in London in 1993 due to heart complications.

Presently the school operate 7 units schools on two campuses at Wuntin Dada Road Bauchi and at Azare.
