Chemical Engineering is the study how to use the principles of Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematic to solve or manage problems related to chemical, drugs, food, fuel and sometime environment as applicable in the plastic industry, petrochemical industry, pharmaceutical industry and more.
Students would be admitted to study this programme at UNIPORT through this two examination processes: UTME or DIRECT ENTRY.
UTME Candidates:
To be eligible for admission to study Chemical Engineering at the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) applicants must have Credit passes in five (5) O/L subjects must include:
- English Language
- Mathematics
- Physics
- Chemistry and one of
- Technology Drawing
- Further Mathematics
- Geography
- Data Processing
- Biology
- Economics
The student must sit for, pass and make the cut off mark for UTME.
UTME subjects combination are:
- Mathematic
- Physics
- Chemistry and
- English Language
He must also pass UNIPORT Post UTME examination, making the minimum requirements to study Chemical Engineering.
Direct Entry Candidates
GCE A/L passes in two subjects (Physic and Mathematic) and one other.
OND result in Chemical Engineering or other relevant engineering programmes (admission to 200 level). Minimum of Upper Credit
HND results with minimum of upper credit in Chemical Engineering or other relevant engineering programmes (admission to 300 level)
IJMB: student must score the minimum entry requirements to be admitted to 200 level
Plus minimum O/L entry requirements as stated above.
Chemical Engineering at UNIPORT is a five (5) years programme to those who gain admission through UTME leading to the award of BEng after successful completion courses.
