Computer Engineering is taught at LAUTECH to address two major problems facing ICT sector of the economy and they are:
- To reduce the shortage of skill hardware and software specialist trained in using modern productivity tools and
- To produce personnel who are verse in the area of research and development to produce indigenous computer solution to local problems.
The programme at the Department of Computer Engineering, LAUTECH is offers as Computer Science (focus on both the science and engineering the computer software and allied topics) and Computer Engineering (majoring in computer hardware sytem design, construction and maintenance).
Students are taught more than seventy courses during their five years study programme, while a total of 194 units completed during this same period.
Entry Requirements
Application to study Computer Engineering at LAUTECH is done two ways:- As JAMB/UTME Candidates and
- As DIRECT ENTRY Candidates
JAMB/UTME Candidates:
Each JAMB/UTME candidate must possess O'Level credit passes in minimum of five subjects which must include:
- Mathematics
- English Language
- Physics and
- Chemistry and one other Science subjects
- Biology (The Department prefer this subject) or
- Further Mathematics
- Agricultural Science
- Technical Drawing
The five credit passes must not be more than at two sittings from either one or two of :
- GCE
- SSCE or
- WSSCE
The JAMB/UTME Candidates must also sit for and pass UTME, making the required cut off mark.
The UTME subjects combination are:
- Mathematics
- Physics
- Chemistry and
- English Language
After
scaling through the UTME, the candidates must then write LAUTECH Post
UTME making the cut off mark for the Department of Computer Engineering.
The JAMB/UTME Candidates are offer admission to 100 level of Computer Engineering programme.
Direct Entry Candidates
Application
through direct entry eligible candidates admission to 200 or 300
level of the LAUTECH Computer Engineering programme. The following
qualifications are accepted for admission:
GCE A' Level: three good passes in Mathematic, Physic and Chemistry will be accepted onto 200 level.
ND
(National Diploma): minimum of Upper Credit in Computer Engineering or
other relevant engineering programmes accepted onto 200 level
HND
(Higher National Diploma): minimum of Upper Credit in Compy Engineering
or relevant other engineering programme accepted onto 300 level.
LAUTECH
pre degree programme is accepted. It not automatic. A candidate must
make.the required grade to be considered for admission into 100 level. If a
candidate score lesser than 50% in a subject, he must have credit pass
in the subject at secondary school.
Computer Engineering at Ladoke Akintola University (LAUTECH) Ogbomoso is a
minimum of five years degree programme leading to the award of Bachelor
of Technology (BTech) honour in Computer Engineering. The programme is
accredited by the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria
(COREN) and National University Commission (NUC)
