Petroleum Engineering at Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti is taught in the same Department with the Chemical Engineering. The Department is refers to as Department of Petroleum and Chemical Engineering. The Department was not teaching the programme until 2013/2014 academic session.

Afe Babalola University, Department of Petroleum and Chemical Engineering teaches students what Petroleum Engineering is. What it is to be a Petroleum Engineer. How to search for and locate petroleum. How to drill and extract it, how to process petroleum, how to manage petroleum companies, how to conduct research and develop new ways on how to do all other things and many other topics through very sound theoritical lectures and lot of laboratory and field practical training.

Studying this programme at ABUAD prepare students to become a complete Petroleum Engineers able to work with either private or government petroleum companies in performing highly challenging tasks in all areas of the discipline. Students are taught and relate with highly experience and professional teachers cum engineers and have hand-on practical training.

Below is the minimum entry requirements to study the programme including JAMB and O/Level subjects combination.


Entry Requirements

Admission is granted students to study Petroleum Engineering at Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD) through these two ways:
  • JAMB University Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and
  • Direct Entry

JAMB/UTME Candidates

Applicants as JAMB/UTME candidates must possess five credit passes from one or two of the following examinations:
  • Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE)
  • General Certificate of Education (GCE)
  • West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination  (WASSCE)

The five credit passes must come from:
  • Mathematics
  • English Language
  • Physics
  • Chemistry and one other science subjects which might be
  • Biology
  • Agricultural Science
  • Technical Drawing
  • Further Mathematics
  • Geography
ABUAD requires the five credit passes to be at just one sit while minimum of six credit passes are require at two sittings and the subjects combination must be right.

JAMB University Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME)

Applicants must sit for, pass and make the cut off mark for the JAMB/UTME.

JAMB/UTME Subjects Combination are:
  • Mathematics
  • English Language
  • Physics and 
  • Chemistry

Afe Babalola Post UTME

After having passed and.make JAMB/UTME cut off mark, applicants must also participate in  the Afe Babalola University coordinated Post UTME and make the required scores for the Department of Petroleum and Chemical Engineering.

Afe Babalola University Pre-Degree Programme 

ABUAD Pre-Degree programme is accepted to study Petroy Engineering provided the student make the  required scores. Students who were unable to secure admission through JAMB/UTME may opt do this.

Applicants given admission through JAMB/UTME or Pre-Degree programme to study Petroleum Engineering at ABUAD  are admitted to 100 level.

Direct Entry Candidates

Application through Direct Entry eligible applicants admission to 200 level of the Petroleum Engineering at Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti. The following qualifications are accepted for direct entry application.

  • GCE Advance Level (A/L) : good passes in three subjects: Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry
  • National Diploma (ND): Credit in relevant Engineering programmes
  • NABTEB's National Technical Certificate with good grades is accepted.
  • Higher National Diploma (HND: holders of this HND in relevant engineering programmes will be considered for admission to 300 level. 
Petroleum Engineering is a minimum of five (5) years programme to those who were granted admission through UTME leading to the award of Bachelor of Engineering (Honour) BEng in Petroleum Engineering. The programme is NUC approved and COREN accredited.
