As you are planning to apply to study Chemical Engineering at First Technical University Ibadan, it should be at the back of your mind that the programme is taught the the Department of Chemical and Mineral Resources Engineering one of the first departments in the Faculty of Engineering and Technology.

Studying Chemical Engineering at First Technical University, Ibadan equipped students with the skill and knowledge with which to develop different chemicals, providing solutions  to same and manage the chemical companies.


To achieve this, the Department is equipped with state of art equipment and teaching facilities, the type which enhance the learning experience of the students couple with highly experienced and professional lectures who expose the students to rigourous lectures, intensive laboratory practical works and industrial attachment.

The curriculum for the teaching of Chemical Engineering at First Technical University is design to comply with the National University Commission's (NUC's) Benchmark for Academic Standard BMAS.

Below are listed the minimum qualifications and entry requirements to study Chemical Engineering at FTU, including the O'Level subjects combination and JAMB subjects combination.

Ordinary Level (O/Level) Candidates

To be eligible to srudy Chemical Engineering at First Technical University (FTU) an applicant must have sat for and passed one or two of the following O'Level examinations.
  • West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE)
  • General Certificate of Examination (GCE) O'Level and 
  • Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) 
The applicant must have credit passes in at least five subjects which must include:
  • Mathematics
  • English Language
  • Physics
  • Chemistry and one other science subjects 
  • Biology
  • Technical Drawing
  • Further Mathematic.
The five credit passes must be at not more than two sittings.

JAMB/UTME Examination

The applicant must sit for JAMB coordinated Universal Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), making the required cut off mark:

  • Mathematics
  • Physics
  • Chemistry and
  • English Language


First Technical University Post UTME

Having been successful in the JAMB/UTME, applicant must also participate in the FTU post UTME and make the required scores for the Chemical Engineering.


Direct Entry Requirements

These following qualifications are accepted to 200 level of Chemical Engineering at First Technical University, Ibadan.
  • GCE Advance Level (A/L): three (3) good passes in Mathematic and Physics and Chemistry
  • National Diploma (ND): Upper Credit in Chemical Engineering or other relevant engineering programme from FTU or other goverment approved institution
  • Higher National Diploma (HND): applicant with HND in Chemical Engineering or other relevant programme with minimum of Upper Credit may be considered for admission to 300 level of Petroleum Engineering.
Chemical Engineering at First Technical University is a five (5) programme for students who were admitted to 100 level, leading to the award of BSc degree in Chemical Engineering. 

The programme is approved by the National University Commission (NUC) and fully accredited by the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN)
